The History of Narration

The history of Narration and performance in music videos was clearly shown through the 14 minuet hit single of ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson. The narrative is very important and apparent. The video begins with two characters (one of them as the lead singer) in a gothic mise en scene horror like atmosphere. The video allows the audience a much more varied access to the performer. The visual narrative and performance cleverly works well together, as the Michael, the singer and actor portrays both roles throughout the video. This extract of the lyrics gives a clear overview of the relationship between the lyrics and the visuals.
